FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why do I need a financial planner?
Comprehensive financial planning is about so much more than investments. Every day you make decisions that affect your financial life with respect to budgeting, large purchases, employee benefits, insurance, and savings. A comprehensive plan – and a planner who’s on your side – brings confidence and simplicity to your life.
Who is your typical client?
If you know where you are and where you’d like to be, but don’t have a clear picture of all the steps in between, I can help. I work with individuals and couples, ages 35-55, that are motivated to share important information, work through what their priorities and goals are, and are willing to make changes.
What does Fee-Only mean?
Fee-only advisors get paid for the advice and guidance they provide. They do not receive commissions, nor do they sell products. The client – and the client’s needs – are at the center of the relationship, not some firm the advisor represents or the products the firm sells.
What qualifications do you have?
I hold an MBA with a Finance concentration, earned a Certificate in Financial Planning by completing a seven-course program of study at SMU, and passed a six-hour comprehensive exam. I stay current by pursuing Continuing Education on a regular basis. My previous work in a fee-only firm taught me how to run a firm right – by putting client interests first.
Do I have to come to your office?
You are always welcome to meet with me at my office in Plano, Texas. Virtual meetings work very well, too. I built Pearl Financial Planning using current technology so we can meet and share data using the latest security features.
If you are in the Dallas/Plano/Frisco area, it’s your preference. We can meet in-person or virtually, whatever is best for you.
Are you a fiduciary?
As a member of the XY Planning Network, I took a Fiduciary Oath to act in good faith and in the best interest of my clients. Many advisors are not held to a fiduciary standard and are only required to make sure a recommendation is “suitable” rather than in your best interest.
How do you get paid?
Pearl Financial Planning is a fee-only financial planning firm. That means I don’t accept commissions, kick-backs, or referral fees from others. I am only paid by my clients. This allows you to be certain that my advice is unbiased and in your best interest. This is not how all advisors run their businesses.
Do I have to pay for the first meeting?
No. The introductory consultation is free.
What is your investment philosophy?
I don’t believe in predicting the future or timing the market. I believe in passive investing and that low-cost, risk-adjusted asset
allocation along with self-discipline works best in the long run.
